The following is an incomplete survey of our 50 states of both their penalties as well as their statutes of limitations for the felonies of both perjury and . . . (most significantly) . . . of attorneys’ suborning (aiding/eliciting) perjury.
NOTE: Illinois, Michigan, and Tennessee seem to consider attorneys’ suborning perjury as even less troubling or onerous conduct than a lawyer’s witness, duly sworn to speak the truth, giving instead false testimony even when that perjury is at the lawyer’s coaching/instruction. This seems to contradict the statements in some states’ Code of Professional Responsibility that attorneys are to be held to a "higher" standard of conduct (i.e., ethics) than the average citizen.
States in BOLD type have (to date) provided this much of the information requested. | ||||

NOTE: Several states’ attorney general’s office responded to the letter of request with the statement in effect that they were neither authorized nor funded to provide private citizens with this kind of "service" - i.e., providing photocopies of the requested statutes.
Also - less than half the states responded to or acknowledged receiving the letter requesting copies of their codes for both perjury and suborning perjury.
